Dear Teenager: You Are Surrounded

Dear Teenager, 

There was once a frightened young man. 

He was in the middle of a war. And one morning upon waking, he and his leader found themselves surrounded by the enemy. The young man was terrified, but his leader, Elisha, was calm. 

“Fear not,” he said, “for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” Elisha asked God to open the eyes of the young man. And what he saw was a mountain FULL of warriors in chariots of fire. 

Angels. 

This is more than a cool story. This is YOUR story. Are you stuck in a war? Yes. Frightened? Maybe. But outnumbered?

Never. 

The reality is you are surrounded by angels, whether you believe that or not. Ask God to open your eyes. Start watching for them, and you will begin to see evidences. In something you hear, read, or feel...perhaps in a “coincidence.” You’ll see.  

Often, angels near us are members of our own family who have passed on. They are very invested in your life, not only because they love you, but because they need you. You have the power here on earth to stop cycles and heal broken parts of your family. Does addiction run in your family? Make it stop. Are there hereditary anger issues? Those end with you. This may in fact be the reason God sent you to your family. To heal. Your life can be a huge relief for your ancestors who suffered in mortality because of weaknesses they’ve passed on. This is what God meant when he called you a “repairer” and a “restorer” (Isa 58:12). 

You help heal THEM. 

And because you help them, they also help you. In fact, Jeffrey R.  Holland said we should ASK for them to help us! Ask God to each day send angels to be with you. Be specific. Tell Him exactly what you need and He will hand pick reinforcements. Angels can go into hallways, locker rooms, and busses. They can help with tests, snowy roads, and heartaches. They can even help online. Ask God for an angel to sit with you before you log on. You will make different choices, knowing an angel is by your side, watching and supporting you. 

I know it may seem at times like the odds are stacked against you. But fear not. There are fiery chariots round about you, ready to help.
